Recently I had the pleasure of meeting some really nice people who were stuck in the past. Someone had set them up with re-purposed windows machines that were barely able to run with the software they needed for day to day business. They wanted to step-up to new ways of doing things but were totally confused by the choices presented to them when they would go shopping for new equipment. Oh it’s easy they would be told just go online and download everything then call the help line when you need assistance. Like a deer in the headlights not knowing where to turn they asked for my help.
I took a look at what they were doing and talked about what their future needs may be then made some suggestions. Moving ahead we agreed to put in only one new computer and integrate it into what they were doing. Still using the old equipment to a lesser and lesser degree as time went on they embraced the newer ways and we replaced one piece of equipment at a time until it was all up to date and networked together. Not one day of business was lost and the efficiency of the newer equipment led to more work getting done on time. They are currently expanding and adding more staff so more equipment will be needed and I will be there whenever needed to assist in their success story.
